Poetry
was a popular form of writing, by students and the Sisters. Poems
were written for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it was to express
how much you liked someone and other times to create an artistic
composition.
Activities
Friendship
Create a memory book for yourself or as a gift to a friend or
family member. Put your favorite pictures in it, and decorate
it with drawings, dried flowers, or any other creative ideas you
can think of.
Admiration
Write a poem for a special friend or a family member, describing
how you feel about them or what they mean to you. It's a fun way
to let someone know you care about them. Below is an example from
one of the students of St. Ann's.

To
My Valentine
Beautiful
Mother, thou art mine,
Loveliest of all is my
Valentine
To thee do I pledge allegiance true
Watch o'er me always
Lady in blue
Teach me to love thy Son Divine
For I want to be
Your Valentine

Inspiration
Pick a short poem or saying that you find inspiring or write one
yourself. Create a piece of art by writing your poem using calligraphy
or neat handwriting. You may paint or draw it to enhance your
poem. You may also frame it and hang it on your wall or give it
as a gift to someone. Here are three examples from students from
St. Ann's. Which one is your favorite?

Sweeter
than the perfume of
Roses is the possession of a kind,
Charitable, unselfish nature, a ready
Disposition to do for others any
Good turn in one's power
I wish, I can, I will
These are the three
Notes to victory
Gratitude
is one of the
Fairest blossoms that spring
From the soul, and the heart of
Man knoweth none so fragrant;
While its opposite, ingratitude, is
A deadly weed.
